Lady Gaga is always known for being outrageous and over the top. In 2011 Lady Gaga released an album called 'Born This Way' that featured her on the cover with silicone appliances that give her a more irregular bone structure of an extra-terrestrial creature.
I researched into more of Lady Gaga's looks and it seems that for this album there was a lot of promotional images and collaborations.
For the Spring issue of i-D magazine, she did a photoshoot with Mariano Vivanco. The makeup artist was Billy B who works with Gaga a lot.
This consisted of a more high fashion take on an alien creature that is styled more edgy with a lot of liner and a high fashion wig.
The music video for this song was directed by the famous Nick Knight. Nick made a full version of the video that consisted of Lady Gaga explaining in an art form of how she came about with her 'mother monster' persona. The beginning of this short film is really edited and distorted like most of Nick's work. In this she is seen with the signature 'mother monster' silicone pieces on her cheekbones and shoulders. This adds to the monster/alien theme that she went through in 2011.
This is a clear image of her pieces to make her look alien-like. I really love how natural the pieces look and how the makeup artist has made it look a part of her body.
